What we collect
When you create an account, we store your email address, an optional display name, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). As you use the app, we store your learning progress — which words you've checked off or flagged, quiz results, and your tone/stroke practice activity — so you can pick up where you left off. We also record the last time your account was active.
Payments
If you purchase all-access, payment is handled entirely by DOKU, our payment processor. We never see or store your card, bank, or e-wallet details — DOKU handles that on their own secure payment page. We only keep a record of the order itself (an invoice number, the amount, and whether it was paid) so we can grant your account access.
AI features
The AI tutor chat and auto-generated example sentences are powered by third-party AI providers (Google Gemini or Anthropic, depending on configuration). Text you send to these features — chat messages, or the vocabulary word being used to generate an example — is sent to that provider to generate a response. Text-to-speech pronunciation is powered by Azure Speech, which receives the Chinese text being read aloud. We don't send your account email, name, or payment information to any of these providers.
Cookies & local storage
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember your light/dark theme preference. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and we don't run any analytics or tracking scripts.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't share it beyond the service providers described above (DOKU for payments, the AI/speech providers for those specific features).
Your data
You can update your name and password any time in Settings. To request a copy of your data or have your account deleted, contact us using the details below.
